About:
Welcome to the Sonor Piano Competition, 2nd edition! We aim to promote Mongolian Classical Piano Music through young, talented musicians who can explore new sounds, experience the power of creativity, developing their musical diversity and versatility through their performances.
Aside from just competing, we hope our participants use this opportunity to challenge themselves and grow further as musicians and artists. It is a journey of dedication, practice, and self-discovery.
Open to all levels, ages 5-18, we will hold in-person and online competitions. We encourage those residing in the Bay Area to attend the in-person competition.
Important Dates:
Registration Opens: Monday, September 1st, 2024
Registration Closes: Monday, January 27th, 2025
Applications submitted after the deadline must pay a late processing fee.
Online Festival: Monday, January 27th, 2025
Competition Day: Saturday, February 8th, 2025, 12:00 PM Lafayette, CA
Results Announcement: Monday, February 10th, 2025
Laureates Concert Day: Saturday, February 15th, 2025, 5:00 PM Piedmont, CA
Registration:
Registration for both the in-person and online festival opens Monday, September 1st, 2024. It will be available until Monday, January 27th, 2025.
Once you submit the registration form, please make your non-refundable payment of:
Category A - Elementary $70
Category B - High Elementary $70
Category C - Intermediate $70
Category D - High Intermediate $80
Category E - Pre Advanced $80
Category F - Advanced $80

A processing fee of $4.00 to $4.50 will be added.
Rules:
Open to participants of all levels, ages 5-18.
2 (two) pieces within the given time limit. There will be no repeats unless D.C. al Fine is noted. Please see Categories / Repertoires for more information on repertoire requirements.
Music scores are available for purchase on our website as well as other free resources in PDF files per participants’ request.
Upon registration, participants will have access to download their level pieces all for free.
Memorization is required.
Three winners from each category. Best Mongolian Repertoire, Best Own Choice Repertoire , Best Music Teacher Prize ( (Awarded to the educator who sends the most students to our competition, along with an invitation to judge the next event) and $5000 Monetary Prizes in Total will be awarded.
ONLINE: Upload original sheet music (including the cover of the music book) with your video submission. The pieces must be recorded separately, with 2 pieces within participants' applied level and time limits. Please upload all recordings at the same time.
IN-PERSON: Participants must provide the original music and 1 copy to the adjudicators on the day of the competition.
Judges' decisions are final.

Category A - Elementary: 2 pieces, up to 5 min.

Category C - Intermediate: 2 pieces, up to 10min.

Category E - Pre Advanced: 2 pieces, up to 15min.

Category F - Advanced: 2 pieces, up to 15min.

Repertoire Choices:
Participants should refer to the following document for a list of available repertoire choices, organized by levels. Upon registration, participants will receive an email with a folder of choices within their chosen level.
Competition Day:
Saturday, February 8th, 2025. 12:00 PM, Lafayette, CA
Registration is now open through Monday, January 27th, 2025.
Participants must provide the original music and 1 copy to the adjudicators on the day of the competition.
Results will be announced on Monday, February 10th, on our website and informed by email.
Winners of each category will be awarded First, Second, and Third Place trophies, along with monetary prizes, certificates, and the judges’ evaluations.
Winners will receive their prizes at the Laureates Concert held on February 15th, 2025 at the Piedmont Center for the Arts.
Online Competition:
Monday, January 27th, 2025.
Online participants will submit their performance videos along with PDF files of their original music scores.
Submission Requirements:
Please upload your video to YouTube as unlisted and title it Sonor Piano Competition 2025
Video recordings must be made with one fixed side angle, ensuring that the performer’s face, hands, and legs are visible.
